School - Here we come!

After planning for a hybrid model all summer, at the last minute the school board was asked to vote on a plan to delay the school year by another month and then phase in the in person instruction. Me and about 85 other community members listened to the board meeting on Zoom and then submitted a public comment recommending that they do not delay the in person instruction. The plan got voted down. Phew!

But, there was not enough staff to offer 5 days a week for elementary. Such a bummer.

So, we're all on an every other day for a half day hybrid plan this year.

Lewis has synchronous instruction all day long where he is actually in live meets with his teacher and class all day. Just 25% of that is in person.

The other boys have live instruction 25% of the time, specials live on remote days, one live meet with their teacher on remote afternoons, and the rest independent learning.

It's confusing, for sure, but I'm so grateful that they have even a little bit of in person instruction. Those are definitely the days that everyone feels the happiest and most engaged. We've adjusted to it all pretty well, but the first few days took a lot of energy.

Here is our new set up in the mud room. Everyone has their mask hooks.

Lewis's desk set up...although after day one we moved it in front of the window so he has better lighting for his zoom calls. The dining room is now a home office for Lewis and David. Beau's desk is down in the music room outside Mike's office.

Our first remote day of school! Grade number pancakes from Mike for everyone!

Lewis had a whole day of remote learning for day 1 of school

Beau, David, and I had a day off until Beau had a meet at 2pm. It was honestly a horrible way to start for these kids. They were both in such a bad mood all day. It was like we had all this pent up anxiety and anticipation with no where to put it.

Finally a meet for Beau at 2pm. It was a tough day getting there, but we made it.
