David's Actual Birthday

The night before the birthday, we had actually headed out to the Art's Council's annual pumpkin carve, this year a drive through event. It was very fun, though a bit later than we had anticipated due to a hour long line of cars. Asher was with us and the kids were crazy leaning out the windows and sitting on the sun roof. 

More importantly, Mike and I submitted our main in ballots on the way there. We voted!!! On October 10. Now to cross all the fingers and toes and hold our breath for election day!

By the time we got to David's actual birthday, he had already been fully celebrated! But, we managed to do it all over again! 

He came into our room in the morning and said in the sweetest voice, "Mommy, I'm actually 6!"

He had a bagel for breakfast while we waited for the older boys to wake up. Then it was chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. Some presents were opened at breakfast and promptly opened up and played with. 

We had church and some downtime. Then it was rice and brown chicken for dinner followed by Hilary and family over to eat gingerbread cake and ice cream with us.

David's Birthday Party

In a Covid year, a small party outdoors was the name of the game. But, those are more fun anyway! David invited over Kenny, Micah, and Connor for his birthday festivities. His brothers provided the entertainment. Lewis did a scavenger hunt and some games. Beau led them in soccer, tag, and some trampoline games. Lewis let them all throw water balloons at him at the end of the party. David had ordered gingerbread people cakes and I set up individual frosting and candy bowls for the kids to decorate their own. It worked out great! 

David felt very loved and very happy! 

Apple Picking & Corn Maze

I wanted to start David's birthday weekend with some good fun. We headed to Terhune for their last day of apple picking. Then we went to the Howell Farm Corn Maze. It was a gorgeous evening, and we really loved the challenge of the maze and playing there after dark. 

I love seeing my big 9 year old still trying to get around on the little tricycles there. So many happy memories from when he was tiny!

I brought inflatable light sabers for when people started getting bored. It worked!

And we did it! We were so proud! Answered all the puzzles and questions and found every mailbox to complete our map. They told us the record for adjusted time (they take off your time if you get it all right) was 45 minutes. We made it out (in adjusted time) in 44 minutes!!!

We had some great games of tag in the hay bale maze after a quick hot dog dinner.
